Unmio is built on Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), a model where individuals control and own their digital identities. It involves issuing cryptographically verifiable credentials that individuals can present to third-party verifiers. Verifiers check these credentials against a distributed ledger to confirm their authenticity.
SSI enhances privacy and security. Since individuals have ultimate control over their digital identities, they can choose which pieces of information to share and with whom. This minimizes the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access, as personal data is not stored in centralized databases that are vulnerable to hacking.
Additionally, SSI provides greater trust and verification. The use of cryptographically generated verified credentials ensures that the information shared is authentic and has been attested to by trusted issuers. This reduces the chances of identity fraud and enhances the reliability of the identity verification process.
