Simple list widget

Content Type: Widget
Categories: User Interface

Overview

Simple list widget for use in pluggable widget containers and master/detail scenario's. Originally created because currently listviews could not be put in pluggable widget containers at that time. This widget is also quite useful in other situations as it allows you to control the selected item.

For simple retrieves, the data could be retrieved directly without setting a reference set first. However, when there are search criteria you will probably need to use a microflow as datasource. The widget datasource is refreshed more often than you might expect. The widget does not choose to reload the datasource, the Mendix client makes that decision. A complex database search can slow down rendering but also the backend because the complex search would be done more often than necessary. So if the data retrieval is more complex, or involves string searches, using the reference set will speed up rendering as it is a really simple retrieve.</p> <div class="markdown-heading" dir="auto"><h3 class="heading-element" dir="auto">Widget datasource</h3><a id="user-content-widget-datasource" class="anchor" aria-label="Permalink: Widget datasource" href="#widget-datasource"><svg data-component="Octicon" class="octicon octicon-link" viewBox="0 0 16 16" version="1.1" width="16" height="16" aria-hidden="true"><path d="m7.775 3.275 1.25-1.25a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 4.95 4.95l-2.5 2.5a3.5 3.5 0 0 1-4.95 0 .751.751 0 0 1 .018-1.042.751.751 0 0 1 1.042-.018 1.998 1.998 0 0 0 2.83 0l2.5-2.5a2.002 2.002 0 0 0-2.83-2.83l-1.25 1.25a.751.751 0 0 1-1.042-.018.751.751 0 0 1-.018-1.042Zm-4.69 9.64a1.998 1.998 0 0 0 2.83 0l1.25-1.25a.751.751 0 0 1 1.042.018.751.751 0 0 1 .018 1.042l-1.25 1.25a3.5 3.5 0 1 1-4.95-4.95l2.5-2.5a3.5 3.5 0 0 1 4.95 0 .751.751 0 0 1-.018 1.042.751.751 0 0 1-1.042.018 1.998 1.998 0 0 0-2.83 0l-2.5 2.5a1.998 1.998 0 0 0 0 2.83Z"></path></svg></a></div> <p dir="auto">The widget datasource uses XPath to retrieve the list using the reference set.</p> <div class="markdown-heading" dir="auto"><h3 class="heading-element" dir="auto">Onclick nanoflow</h3><a id="user-content-onclick-nanoflow" class="anchor" aria-label="Permalink: Onclick nanoflow" href="#onclick-nanoflow"><svg data-component="Octicon" class="octicon octicon-link" viewBox="0 0 16 16" version="1.1" width="16" height="16" aria-hidden="true"><path d="m7.775 3.275 1.25-1.25a3.5 3.5 0 1 1 4.95 4.95l-2.5 2.5a3.5 3.5 0 0 1-4.95 0 .751.751 0 0 1 .018-1.042.751.751 0 0 1 1.042-.018 1.998 1.998 0 0 0 2.83 0l2.5-2.5a2.002 2.002 0 0 0-2.83-2.83l-1.25 1.25a.751.751 0 0 1-1.042-.018.751.751 0 0 1-.018-1.042Zm-4.69 9.64a1.998 1.998 0 0 0 2.83 0l1.25-1.25a.751.751 0 0 1 1.042.018.751.751 0 0 1 .018 1.042l-1.25 1.25a3.5 3.5 0 1 1-4.95-4.95l2.5-2.5a3.5 3.5 0 0 1 4.95 0 .751.751 0 0 1-.018 1.042.751.751 0 0 1-1.042.018 1.998 1.998 0 0 0-2.83 0l-2.5 2.5a1.998 1.998 0 0 0 0 2.83Z"></path></svg></a></div> <p dir="auto">The onclick is done using a nanoflow.
